毎日夜中までコツコツやっています。コミッティメンバーからフィードバックが帰ってきたのが先週の金曜日。この週末、そして今日、とせっせせっせと書き直したり書き足したり。終わる日は来るのでしょうか。本当に。
でも昨日、Kさんといううちの大学の日本人組織（Japan Club）のトップ（プレジデント）である人から電話をいただいて、今日、日本総領事の方がキャンパスに来られて、そのレセプションがあるということだったので、それに行ってきました。もっと日本人の学生さんがくれば良かったのに、と思いましたが、新しい情報をゲットしました。今、この私が通っているWashington State Universityには合計157人の日本人学生がいるそうです。でも本当かなぁ。もしかしたら英語学校にいる日本人は数えてないかも。よく分かりません。
ところで今日は特大に嬉しいことがひとつ。私の学部のメールボックスに手紙が入ってました。うちの学部から。Ph. D.のプログラムにうかった、という手紙でした。みんなが大丈夫、大丈夫、というし、私なんてもうグラントの申請もすませているにもかかわらず、やっぱりちゃんとした書類をもらうまでは不安なものなんですよね。で、なんだか安心してとっても嬉しいわけです。そこで記念に手紙をここに書いておこうかと思います。これはすべて、私が10年後くらいに、懐かしがって読むためのものなので、つまらないこと請け合いですが、家族以外の方はここはさらっと流して下さい。
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) has approved your application to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Nutrition degree program at Washington State University. ばーっとタイプしたのでタイプミスがあるかもしれませんが、要はつまり、今やっているマスターが終われば、という条件つきなわけですね。ところで私はうえに書いたふたりの先生のうち、最初のほうの先生、Dr. Val Hillersが今のアドバイザーであって、その先生が私をPh. D. の生徒としてとってくれると思っていたんですが、意外だったのはDr. Miriam Edlefsenという私が仲良しのコーネル大学でPh. D.をとったばかりの若い先生までもが私をとってもいい、と言ってくださったこと。ここは連絡をとるべきなのか、どうなのか、ちょっと全然分かりません。仲良しなのは仲良しなのでおしゃべりついでにオフィスに行こうかとは思ってますが、本当に意外。
さて水曜日には私のディフェンスを書類でスケジュールしなければいけません。今日も頑張らないと。
